Senior Rally Day 2016 - CSLA Legislative Report

California Senior Leaders Alliance (CSLA) was one of 14 organizations co-sponsoring and participating in the May Senior Rally Day in Sacramento.  CSLA’s Capitol Action Team along with the Executive Associate were approved by the Advisory Board to attend the Rally and represent CSLA.  Over 500 seniors from around the State gathered at the Capitol. The organizations are dedicated to changing the way our community, politicians, and  the State views its seniors.  The theme or mantra for the Rally was “Seniors Count!”

 LEGISLATIVE REPORT

 California Senior Leaders Alliance (CSLA) was one of 14 organizations co-sponsoring and participating in the May Senior Rally Day in Sacramento.  CSLA’s Capitol Action Team along with the Executive Associate were approved by the Advisory Board to attend the Rally and represent CSLA.  Over 500 seniors from around the State gathered at the Capitol. The organizations are dedicated to changing the way our community, politicians, and  the State views its seniors.  The theme or mantra for the Rally was “Seniors Count!” The sponsoring organizations have three broad goals to help California deal with five million new seniors in the decades ahead:

GOAL NUMBER ONE: ENABLE SENIORS TO AGE IN PLACE

GOAL NUMBER TWO: PROTECT OUR MOST VULNERABLE SENIORS

GOAL NUMBER THREE: PROVIDE ADVOCACY AND INFORMATION FOR SENIORS

 

Press Conference and Remarks by Members of the Legislature included Assembly Member Cheryl Brown – Chair, Aging and Long-Term Care Committee;  Senator Carol Liu, – Chair, Select Committee on Aging and Long-Term Care; Senator Holly Mitchell – Chair, Budget Subcommittee on Health and Human Services; Assembly Member Tony Thurmond - Chair, Budget Subcommittee on Health & Human Services; and  Senator Jeff Stone, Budget Subcommittee on Health & Human Services.

 

Lunch was provided and assignments were distributed for the legislative visits. Seniors walked the halls and visited legislators and/or their staff and advocated for the stated goals.  At the close of the Rally, reports were turned in and closing remarks were given by various organization leaders and Assembly Member Cheryl Brown.
